The guest speaker for our June Lunch is Dr Katherine Firth
The title of Katherine’s presentation is:
Questions for an inaugural Head: setting a new path in a new residential hall at the University of Melbourne
Lisa Bellear House is a new residential hall owned by the University of Melbourne. It opened just as COVID struck and has only had a Head for a year. Dr Katherine Firth has worked in colleges in Cambridge and Melbourne for 20 years and is used to working with decades (or centuries) of traditions, norms and culture. She talks about what it’s like to start with a blank slate, and what a 21st-century hall might keep and what it might create anew.
Dr Katherine Firth is an award-winning educator, author of multiple books in the fields of the arts, writing, research skills and history, as well as working as a poet and librettist. Currently, she is Head of Lisa Bellear House, at the University of Melbourne, having previously worked at Trinity College, Melbourne, Janet Clarke Hall, International House Melbourne, and Westcott House in Cambridge. As well as co-author of multiple books her first solo authored book is Writing Well and Being Well for your PhD and Beyond. Katherine was a Commonwealth Scholar at Newnham College Cambridge (1997) and completed her ARC-funded PhD at Oxford Brookes University. Katherine serves as a Council Member of Anglicare Victoria and a Justice of the Peace.
